The paper considers a problem of map digitizing. Due to impossibility to solve this problem automatically, a combination of automatic and interactive techniques is used. For automatic map vectorization, a special fast scheme and corresponding methods are proposed. An algorithm to detect dashed lines is proposed and several modes have been developed to extract line cartographic objects. The system is successfully used to digitize topographic and other map types.
