Pierre-Etienne Moreau obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Lorraine in 1999. He then worked for the french telecom company, Bouygues Telecom, on a flexible rating engine. Since 2009, he has been Professor of Computer Science at Mines Nancy / Université de Lorraine.
His current research activities focusses on semantics of programming languages, rule based programming, and program transformation. He is the principal architect and developer of the Tom system, a rule based languages integrated in Java. This language is used both in academic and industrial settings. He has published more than 40 papers and is involved in several program committees of international conferences.
From 2008 to 2014 he headed an Inria research team called Pareo. From 2009 to 2015 he headed the Computer Science Department at Mines Nancy. Since January 2016, he is the scientific leader of  GDR CNRS GPL.
