He worked as a <span class=\"style_1\">postdoctoral research fellow<\/span>\u00a0at Harvard Medical School in\u00a0<a class=\"style_2\" title=\"http:\/\/www.medicalsim.org\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.medicalsim.org\/\">the Simulation Group<\/a>, at the CIMIT laboratory, and at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (2006-2007). He joined the Department of Biosurgery and Surgical Technology at <a title=\"http:\/\/www3.imperial.ac.uk\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www3.imperial.ac.uk\/\">Imperial College<\/a> as a Research Associate (2007-2009). In 2009, he was recruited as a lecturer at <a title=\"http:\/\/www.univ-lorraine.fr\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.univ-lorraine.fr\/\">Lorraine University<\/a>. In 2013, he spent one month as an invited researcher in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vmg.cs.bangor.ac.uk\/\">Visualization and Medical Graphics<\/a> group at the School of Computer Science, Bangor University (UK). He was a visiting Professor at Harvard University (2014\u20132016) at the\u00a0<a class=\"style_2\" title=\"http:\/\/biorobotics.harvard.edu\/\" href=\"http:\/\/biorobotics.harvard.edu\/\">Harvard Biorobotics Lab<\/a> led by Professor Robert D. Howe.<\/p>\n<p>He has been involved in numerous national and international collaborative projects in computational medicine and medical simulation. He was WP leader in the ANR project <a href=\"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/prespin\/\"> PreSPIN<\/a>. He was engaged in long-term collaborations with Uppsala University through the Swedish Research Council-funded projects <a href=\"http:\/\/www.it.uu.se\/research\/scientific_computing\/project\/rbf\/biomech\"> INVIVE<\/a> (2017\u20132020) and REVIVE (2021\u20132024), co-supervising PhD students with annual research stays in Sweden. He was leading the Inria associate team <a href=\"https:\/\/team.inria.fr\/curative\"> CURATIVE<\/a> with Harvard University, dedicated to the computational modeling and simulation of mitral valve. Earlier in his career, he supervised several research projects, including on a liver biopsy simulator (CRaIVE, 2007\u20132014, UK Health Technology Devices), a hernia treatment simulator (HeROSS, 2009\u20132011), the ANR project ASPI \u2013 Talking Head Model (2009\u20132013) and regional projects such as a laparoscopic dissection simulator (2012\u20132014). In 2025, he was involved in the \u201cMitral Valve Digital Twin\u201d project funded by the Springboard Programme for bilateral UK\u2013France partnerships, in collaboration with the University of Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>Since February 2017, he has been the principal investigator of Inria associate research team <a href=\"https:\/\/team.inria.fr\/curative\"> CURATIVE <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/team.inria.fr\/curative\/files\/2017\/06\/logo_curative.png\" width=\"39\" height=\"36\" \/><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since June 2017, he has been involved in the Swedish Research Council (VR) project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.it.uu.se\/research\/scientific_computing\/project\/rbf\/biomech\"> INVIVE <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"http:\/\/www.it.uu.se\/research\/scientific_computing\/project\/rbf\/biomech\/invive_web_gradient.png\" width=\"67\" height=\"27\" \/><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since January 2021, he is WorkPackage leader in the ANR <a href=\"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/prespin\/\"> PreSPIN <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone \" src=\"https:\/\/project.inria.fr\/prespin\/files\/2021\/03\/Logo2-300x190.png\" width=\"69\" height=\"43\" \/><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/members.loria.fr\/PFVillard\/files\/results\/research_v8.svg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-826 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/members.loria.fr\/PFVillard\/files\/results\/research_v8.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>His main research interests are in medical visualization and simulation, augmented reality, and image-guided surgery.
