News
2012
- March 21.
- New [Write PDB...] button in the G-LE window to write a PDB file at
its new 3D position. WARNING: this only writes the (modified) ATOM/HETATM records in
the new file (The other PDB record are not copied into the new file).
- New [fix position] command in the [LifeExplorer] menu: this copies
the world coordinates of the object into the local coordinates and
resets the local-to-world transformation matrix. Use this prior to
saving a Mesh/Surface if you want it to be exported at the
same position as in the Graphite 3D window. Warning: after the
command is started, there is no way to get back to the original
local coordinates (except if these were already saved in some
file).
- March 9.
- The base-pair tuning tool is now better at finding the atom that you
clicked on. Also, when clicking an atom, the base-pair number and the atom
name is displayed (at the bottom of the window)
- New name : Graphite - LifeExplorer
- March 5. Fixes opacity bug in the DNA rendering and the "Curve to tubular
surface" command.
- February 29. Fixes a crash triggered by tubular surface creation.
- February 16. Meshing a PDB file takes into account the global
translation/rotation of the corresponding PDB (Line object). The command for
loading point sequences is cleaner and in the LifeExplorer menu. The other
commands appear in the "MM Curve" menu.
- February 7. Added a tool for moving an object in space, globally.
2011
- November 2. Graphite's very basic user guide.
- October 19. New release for Mac OS X:
- twisting and PDB export should work correctly with closed DNA.
- Much (much) faster coloring of residues on molecular surfaces.
- October 18. We are working on making circular (closed loop) DNA work
correctly with custom twisting and PDB export. In the picture below: Left,
modeling a closed DNA strand with a cubic Bezier curve and some custom local
twisting (see the lighter base pairs). Middle, the corresponding exported PDB
model. Right, a colored molecular surface generated from the PDB. (Click to
The feature seems ready and will be included in future releases.
- October 12. We give a talk about MicroMégas at the "Journée Visu 2011."

- October 4. We have a brand new mailing-list! Check this
link to subscribe.
- September 29. The Mac application has been updated to fix the search
for internal (GEL) files, which were not found.
- September 27. Graphite with its MicroMegas plugin is now available as
a standalone application for Mac! (Download link in the Mac section below).
- September 2. Now features the DNA-twist tool, that lets you select a base
pair and twist it. You can abuse it to produce flat DNA for example, or simply
to locally adjust the position of the base pairs.
