I am a CNRS
Director of Research based in the
LORIA Computer Science research unit of Nancy, France. My research is
in Computational Linguistics and I focus on lexical acquisition and
grammar development for French, the syntax/semantics interface and TAG
(Tree Adjoining Grammar) based surface realisation.
After studying linguistics at the University of Toulouse, I graduated
from the University of Essex with an MSc in Artificial Intelligence
and defended my PhD in Cognitive Science at the University of
Edinburgh. From 1991 to 2000, I worked as a researcher at the
Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam (The Netherlands),
Clermont-Ferrand and Sarrebruecken (Germany). Since 2001 I have been
working for the CNRS at the Lorraine Laboratory for Research in
Computer Science (LORIA) in Nancy, France.
I have published a book on analysis and generation (with Karine
Baschung) and about 100 articles in journals and conference
proceedings many of them in the ACL conferences (ACL, EACL, NAACL).
I have been nominated Chair of the European Chapter for the
Association of Computational Linguistics (EACL), editor in chief of
the french journal Traitement Automatique des Langues and member of
the editorial board of the journals Computational Linguistics,
Journal of Semantics. Each year I am on the programme committee of
half a dozen international conferences or workshops. I also acted as
general conference chair for EACL 2006 and Program Chair for ESSLLI
2002, DIALOR 2005, TAG+ 2008, EACL 2009, ENLG 2011 and SIGDIAL 2012.
On tuesdays at 12 a.m, I teach
Iyengar yoga at LORIA. For
this, I thank Clé
Souren, my teacher in Amsterdam.
